DEKALB COUNTY, GEORGIA (Feb. 27, 2025) – Decide DeKalb Development Authority in partnership with Georgia Piedmont Technical College (GPTC) and DeKalb County School District’s Career Technical and Agricultural Education (CTAE) program, is set to host the GPTC MADE: Pathways to Success Showcase on Saturday, March 8, from 10 a.m.to 1 p.m. at the DeKalb Conference Center, 495 N Indian Creek Dr, Clarkston.

This interactive MADE in DeKalb event is designed to expose and engage high school students, their parents/guardians, and educators to careers and opportunities in manufacturing and distribution.

Joshua Williams, business relations specialist at Decide DeKalb, emphasized the importance of workforce development in DeKalb County and the positive strides the business, education, and the public sector communities are taking to ensure the County’s youth is supported.

“The showcase is an opportunity for students to see firsthand the rewarding careers available and how a viable living can be made from the skills industry,” Williams said. “By partnering with local employers and education leaders, we’re preparing the next generation for high-demand careers.”

Moreover, local employers like PepsiCo, Sugar Bowl Bakery, and Universal Steel will provide hands-on demonstrations, product samples, and discuss career opportunities. Eligible students will also have the chance to apply for job openings on site.

“We are excited to cohost this impactful event alongside Decide DeKalb and DeKalb County School District, showcasing the pathways available through GPTC to help students gain the skills and credentials needed for success in the workforce,” Executive Vice President Cheree Williams said, highlighting GPTC’s partnership and role.

A special highlight of the event includes Be Pro Be Proud Georgia, a statewide workforce development initiative. Attendees will experience hands-on simulations inside an 18-wheeler trailer, showcasing various technical career paths. Operations Manager Justina Brown said, “The future of Georgia’s workforce depends on our ability to inspire and prepare young talent. Be Pro Be Proud Georgia is thrilled to bring our Mobile Workshop experience to DeKalb, allowing students to engage with career opportunities in a tangible and exciting way.

Additionally, breakout sessions and a keynote presentation by Williams will take place at noon, providing valuable insights into workforce development and career readiness.

“DeKalb County’s CTAE program is committed to equipping students with the knowledge and hands-on experience necessary to make informed career decisions. This event bridges the gap between education and industry, and we are encouraged by the outcome this collaboration will bring,” Doryiane Gunter, DeKalb County School District CTAE director, said.
