CLARKSTON, GA – Students from Georgia Piedmont Technical College showed off their skills and knowledge at the annual state SkillsUSA competition Thursday and Friday and came home with five medals. Team GPTC netted two gold medals, one silver, and two bronze. Students competing were: Rebekkah Richardson/Esthetics, Elizabeth Putman/Cosmetology, Naeema James & Marcilla Johnson/Job Interview, Kori Turner/Early Childhood, Darsheuna Dumas/Practical Nursing, Michael Jackson/HVAC, Allison Hammer/Medical Assisting, Tamirah Dix & Britnie Miller/Customer Service, Morgan Moss/Practical Nursing, Kyrs Choute Mbogning/Medical Math and Lelaina Kite/Medical Math.
Thirty-four-year-old Marcilla Johnson of Atlanta is an interdisciplinary studies student; she earned her gold medal in the job interview competition. Her teammate and fellow gold medalist, 41-year-old practical nursing student Darsheuna Dumas of Dacula, will represent GPTC on the national SkillsUSA stage this June. That event will also be held in Atlanta.
Bringing home the silver was Tamirah Dix for her performance in the customer service category and bronze medal winners were Krys Choute Mbogning for medical math and Morgan Moss for practical nursing.
